This book is written for young readers but is also suitable for adults. The main character is a wild mustang horse whose story is told from his point of view. It details his birth, early years, growing up in a herd, surviving harsh winters, being attacked by a cougar, becoming separated from his family, wining a group of mares to care for, being captured, knowing the love of a young girl, ending up on the rodeo circuit and finally befriended by a Lakota Sioux who gives him his freedom. It is complete with pencil drawings as well as footnotes to aid any newcomer into the world of horses.
